Tanvald is situated on the confluence of the Kamenice and Desná Rivers, and on the border between the Jizera and Krkonoše (Giant) Mountains. The first written note about Tanvald as a timber settlement comes from the second half of the 16th century. In the 19th century, glass and textile industries began to develop, and later also the electrical and engineering industries. In 1905 Tanvald was promoted to town status.

The festival is organized by the civic organization Czech Culture in cooperation with City Tanvald.
